With simple anchoring (retentive) features

This is the simplest type of a removable substitute, its retentive (catch) mechanism is just wire clips, by which the denture itself fits onto the remaining teeth. As they have a lot of disadvantages, they are used only as a temporary solution.

The clips are made from a wire that flex and loosen with each application and removal. The grip of the denture gets worse and worse. At their repeated “springing”, which is done by hand so that the denture again gets a good grip (and will not fall out), an uncontrollable and hardly estimable amount of lever power transfer onto the teeth at each given operation of the denture; the set power cannot be measured. Teeth are improperly levered and strained. The result of using this as a long-term solution is an increase in the remaining teeth’s mobility and subsequent possible loss.

Disadvantages:

  • gradual eradication of the remaining teeth (teeth are strained by an improperly transferred pressure)
  • low retention (linkage to the remaining teeth is limited)
  • low stability of the substitute

Advantages:

  • financially reasonable solution
