Denture skeleton substitutes

Skeleton substitutes are substitutes of higher quality, as their anchoring on the remaining teeth is more stable. So-called rigid (molten) non-wire clips are parts of the metallic skeleton of the substitute; their particular arms do not get loose, so they attach the denture better onto the remaining teeth.

Clips are molded whole from one metal, whose rates of elasticity are defined in advance. It is impossible to flex (so called repeatedly activate) from hand, so the lever powers at manipulation with the denture can be estimated and their impact on teeth is minimized.

The shape of clips is carefully and individually designed and marked on a plaster model of the specific teeth (acquired from an imprint of the mouth) with an exact device (paralometer) so that it minimizes levering upon removal and application of the denture.

The neighboring teeth of the gap created after losing a tooth are usually set with specially adjusted crowns, with clips firmly connected (frequently so-called milled ones). The reason for this is their protection against overload (chewing), they also transfer the pressure for the teeth substituted in the denture and at the same time splinting (linking) of a tooth with a weakened bone.

Disadvantages:

  • rigid metallic clips do not meet high aesthetic requirements for treatment (crossover of the substitute onto the remaining teeth is visible)

Advantages:

  • relatively high quality retention (anchoring) and stability of the substitute.
